UPCL to host state’s 1st solar fair to promote rooftop solar power scheme

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) will host the state's inaugural solar fair, Saur Kauthig, at Dehradun's Rangers Ground from Dec 16-17. The event aims to raise awareness about the Centre's rooftop solar power schemes for households, said UPCL managing director Anil Kumar on Friday.Highlighting the initiative, Kumar said that Uttarakhand has set an ambitious target of generating 1,400 MW of solar power by 2027. The Centre's PM Surya Ghar Yojana, he noted, will play a crucial role in overcoming the state's topographical challenges."Uttarakhand's solar power generation potential is approximately 1 GW. The rooftop solar power scheme is a significant step toward achieving this goal. The two-day event will bring together all stakeholders of the scheme, creating much-needed awareness among residents who can also register for the program," Kumar said.Currently, rooftop solar installations in the state generate 23 MW of power. Kumar added, "Under the scheme, the Centre provides a subsidy of Rs 85,800, and the state offers Rs 51,000 for a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant. This event, with chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurating the first day, will enhance public understanding of the scheme and its benefits."
