U’khand’s monkey rescue centre in Haldwani to house 10k primates

Dehradun: The state forest department will establish a 100-hectare sanctuary near Haldwani where 10,000 monkeys will be housed.

, Jai Raj, “The land for the proposed

monkey

rescue centre has been identified in Haldwani and financial planning is being done. The Centre will be a kind of natural habitat governed according to the guidelines of the

Central Zoo Authority

(CZA) and operated by the administration of GB Pant Hight Altitude Zoo, Nainital.”

The move comes after simian menace has gripped many towns in the state. Two monkey sterlization centres will also be developed in Almora and Ranibagh. At present, Chidiapur in Haridwar and Haldwani have such centres.

According to Jai Raj, Uttarakhand has a population of 1.4 lakh monkeys.
