Nainital: The Uttarakhand high court on Monday stayed the Nainital municipal body's order (dated March 25, 2022) in relation to renewing the contracts awarded earlier for the upkeep of parking areas in different areas -- Lake Bridge, Barapathar, Anda Market and near BD Pandey Hospital -- of the lake town.
The decision came as the HC was hearing a PIL alleging that the contracts of three old contractors associated with the municipal body were renewed with a 20% raise without a proper tender process.
The bench of Justice Sarad Kumar Sharma issued a notice to the three contractors -- Nardev (who goes by his first name), Sachin Kumar and Umesh Mishra -- to submit their response in the case within three weeks.
The PIL -- filed by Ajay Kumar, a resident of Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) -- says that other contractors couldn't even participate in the process as the contracts were renewed without inviting tender bids. He added that this also led to a loss of government revenue as other contractors might have quoted a reduced price for the upkeep of the parking spaces.
