DEHRADUN: Bringing laurels to the Himalayan state, its police personnel have bagged four gold medals in different events at the Fairfax World Police and Fire Games 2015 being held at Virginia in the US.
Mukesh Rawat, a constable from Haridwar, bagged the rare distinction of winning two gold medals in the sports event for policemen which saw participation from across 90 countries.

After winning the 3,000-metre steeplechase, Mukesh continued with his winning streak and bagged a gold in the 1,500-metre race. Mukesh had joined the state police under the sports quota in 2010-11.
In 2012, he had bagged a gold medal in the 60th All India Police Athletics meet in Delhi, while he bagged another one in the 10,000-metre race during the World Police Fire Games-2013 held at Belfast in 2013.
Meanwhile, constable Manish Rawat not only won the 5-km walk but also created a record by registering a time of 20 minutes and 40 seconds. A resident of Chamoli district, Manish, has already qualified for the 2016 Olympics at Rio de Janerio, Brazil.
Earlier, Haridwar-based constable Amit Chhetri bagged a gold medal in a body-building competition. Winner of several medals in the country, Chhetri continued with his good performance in the World Police Fire Games.
Meanwhile, lauding the achievements of Uttarakhand cops, the police brass have decided to honour them during the state’s foundation day function at Parade Ground on November 9.
“The police headquarters have announced a cash prize for the winners. They will be honoured on November 9,” IG headquarters Deepam Seth told TOI.
