Two killed, 3 injured as car falls into gorge

RUDRAPUR

: Two people were killed and two other were seriously injured when their car fell into a deep gorge after colliding with another car on Saturday. The accident occurred in the evening hours on Padosasera road in Barakot tehsil of

Champawat district

, police said. The deceased have been identified as Amit Pandey and Rahul Rawat.

Around 4pm, two cars - a

Chevrolet

Beat (UK 03 L 6919) and a Renault Duster (UK 03 TA 1117) - travelling on the road had a head-on collision following which the driver of the Chevrolet lost control over the car and it fell into a gorge. At the time of the accident there were five passengers in the Chevrolet. The dead and the injured were brought up from the gorge by a team of police, revenue department and the disaster management team.

While Amit Pandey died on the spot, Rahul Rawat succumbed to injuries during treatment at the hospital. The other three injured, Pankaj Chauhan, Atul Bisht and Reshu Singh, were referred to a higher center at

Haldwani

. The bodies were sent to the district hospital for post-mortem after which they were handed over to the families.
