State bows to collectorate employees’ demands, brews fresh trouble
DEHRADUN: The state government, on Tuesday, finally ceded to the demands of the collectorate employees who were asking for 10% reservation in promotion quota for elevation to the post of nayabtehsildar.
However, Revenue Joint Employees Union has opposed the state’s move and announced to go on strike if the government implements this order.
Collectorate employees, who had been on strike since September 15, have on the other hand, refused to go back on their stance until and unless the state takes any concrete action to fulfill their demands.

The two-week long strike has impeded administrative functions across the state.
“We held talks with chief secretary Subhash Kumar on the issue. He agreed to give us the benefit of 10% promotion quota for the position of nayab tehsildars and asked us to call off the strike. However, going by our past experiences where we have been ditched after assurances, this time we will go off strike only after the state issues a government order regarding the decision,” said Vinod Kumar, state president of the collectorate employees on strike.
Revenue Joint Employees Union, on the other hand, have threatened to go on strike if the order is issued. “50% of the positions for nayab tehsildars are filled by direct recruitment through state public service commission and the rest through promotion. If the collectorate employees’ demand is considered, then our quota of 50% will be reduced to 40% which we will not accept,” said a member of the union.
