ALMORA: A group of jawans and officers of border guarding force - Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB), will undertake a 10-day high altitude expedition in Kalapani in Pithoragarh district from January 14, in a bid to acclimatize the personnel to search and rescue operations in tough terrain. The 35-member team includes jawans and officers selected from across the country.
Those who have no prior experience in living and carrying out rescue operations in high altitudes have been selected.
The team will begin the trek from Eligar, near Dharchula, in Pithoragarh district, and move up to Kalapani, situated at 3,600 metre above sea level. If the weather conditions permit, the SSB group will continue to trek up to Om Parvat, located at an altitude of 6,191 metres. The commandant of 11th Battalion SSB, Rajesh Thakur, will lead the group.
