DEHRADUN: The second and concluding day of the ‘Smart Dehra’ seminar on issues confronting Dehradun, saw vibrant discussions on a number of aspects concerning the Doon valley – from proper disposal of garbage in an eco-friendly manner to presentations on what constitutes ‘smart heritage.’
Experts from JNU, NGO Waste Warriors as well as INTACH concurred that the development of Dehradun as a smart city should be done in accordance with the fragile ecosystem of the region.
Lokesh Ohri, convener, INTACH, Dehradun chapter which had conceptualised the seminar, told TOI, “The purpose of the seminar was to learn from experiences of experts from Dehradun and other parts of the country to formulate a focused action plan - for citizens as well as government - for rejuvenating the landscape of our valley. Discussions were primarily focused on how to protect the built and natural heritage of the valley, ensuring proper waste management, town planning and conservation of disappearing water bodies.”
Among the speakers at the sessions were Raman Kumar of the Nature Science Initiative, Shraddha Zende of Waste Warriors, Manu Bhatnagar, principal director of natural heritage division and Navin Piplani, principal director, INTACH Heritage Academy. Maj Gen (retd) LK Gupta, chairman, INTACH, addressed the valedictory session. Uttarakhand governor KK Paul was the chief guest on the ocassion.
