RUDRAPUR: The
Congress on Wednesday stepped up preparations for the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections, with state in-charge Kumari Selja launching a five-day tour from Rudrapur, where she addressed a district-level workers’ conference.
On her first visit to the town in this role, Selja received a warm welcome from party workers, with senior leaders and grassroots members attending the event, signalling efforts to strengthen the organisation ahead of the polls.
At a meeting later in the day, she urged workers to begin preparations immediately and connect with the public. “This is the time to organise and reach out to the people,” she said, asking cadres to stay active to ensure a strong showing in 2027.
Inviting new members, Selja added, “The Congress welcomes everyone who believes in its ideology.”
Targeting the BJP government, she alleged corruption and governance failures. “The government is mired in corruption… development has stalled and it has failed to handle disasters,” she said, adding that recent moves reflected “nervousness” ahead of elections.
Expressing confidence, she said the Congress would contest with full strength and form the next government with a decisive mandate.
Senior leaders, including Gurdeep Sappal, Ganesh Godiyal, Yashpal Arya, Pritam Singh, Harak Singh Rawat, Bhuvan Kapri, Tilak Raj Behad, Adesh Chauhan and Gopal Singh Rana, were present. Workers also felicitated leaders with traditional symbols such as ceremonial maces and swords.
