Uttrakhand election commission allots poll symbols to candidates

DEHRADUN

: The state election commission (SEC) on Monday distributed election symbols to around 500 candidates who will be contesting the civic elections scheduled on November 18. The candidates had to choose from a list of 47 symbols that were allotted to them by the commission. The symbols range from eggplant, bananas, cricket bats, carom boards, camera, kettles among others.

According to officials, a candidate is given a list of three choices and the SEC decides the

symbol

that is allotted to them. “While most of the times candidates get their first choice but sometimes there is a clash where it is decided through lottery. For example, two contestants from ward 26 of DMC wanted gas cylinder as their election symbol. Finally, we decided through a

lottery

,” said Dehradun returning officer, Arvind Pandey.
