Sampurnanand jail inmate serving life sentence escapes prison during fieldwork

RUDRAPUR: In a daring escape, Jarnail Singh, 55, serving a life sentence at Sampurnanand Jail in Sitarganj of US Nagar district, managed to evade guards during field duty on Thursday.
Singh, hailing from Bichai, Nanakmatta in the district, went missing while working alongside fellow inmates. Following Singh's disappearance, several police stations and forest department were alerted and the prison's security perimeter was tightened.
A dense forest surrounding the area complicated efforts, allowing Singh to become untraceable easily. Later, an extensive search operation was launched. SP Malik said, "Singh was serving life sentence for murder and was lodged in jail on June 21 last year. Multiple agencies are collaborating to trace the escapee. Forest Department personnel from various ranges, including Kishanpur, Barakoli, and Ransali, are combing the area. Singh's photograph has been circulated across social media platforms to enhance community awareness."
