Rishikesh: J&K student, Nepalese drown in Ganga

Haridwar: Two students drowned in the Ganga in Rishikesh on Tuesday evening. Soon after the accident, police launched an operation to fish out their bodies but had failed to trace them till the time this report was filed late in the evening on Wednesday.

The two victims have been indentified as Tushar Kaushik and Milan Podal. While Tushar was a Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) resident, Milan was from Nepal. They had come to Rishikesh on Holi with their friends, two of whom were Delhi residents while one was from J&K.

Sanjeet Kumar, senior sub inspector of Muni-ki-Reti police station, told TOI, “The accident took place in Tapovan area. Reportedly, Milan slipped into the river and to save him, his other friends also jumped into the river but they all got trapped in the waves. On seeing this, a German tourist jumped into the river and saved two persons, Bhumika and Sahil but Tushar and Milan got drowned. Police divers and SDRF teams are trying to trace the bodies and their parents have been informed.”

According to police, Tushar was a student at an engineering college in J&K whereas Milan was a student of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in New Delhi.
