DEHRADUN: Chief minister Harish Rawat visited devastated pockets of Chamoli district on Saturday, six days after floods and cloudbursts ravaged the region. He met with the flood victims of Tharali, Kulsari and Karanprayag and assured them compensation.
Addressing a meeting at Tharali in Chamoli district, Rawat also announced that a two-member committee would be set up comprising Congress MLA from Karanpryag Ansuya Prasad Maikhuri and Chamoli district magistrate(DM) to conduct an ‘on-the-spot survey of the affected areas to provide compensation to as many as 86 families soon.’
“Once the two-member committee is formally constituted, a survey would be done that would help in deciding the amount of compensation to be paid to each victim.” Welfare of these families is on the top of our priorities,”Rawat said in an official statement.
Official sources confirm that the chief minister flew to the region four days after being reinstated in his office. “Although, cloudbursts and floods which had brought down dozens of houses and animal sheds causing deaths of over 200 domestic animals, CM Harish Rawat flew to the region four days after he was reinstated as CM on May 10,” said sources.
