Dehradun: After a week of unusually hot weather, Uttarakhand is likely to receive rain and strong winds over the next four days, bringing relief from the heat across parts of the state.
Meteorological Centre director C S Tomar said light rain is likely in Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts on May 24. Barring Haridwar and US Nagar, light to moderate rain has been forecast across the remaining districts for three consecutive days from May 25.
“We have also issued a warning as winds ranging between 40kmph and 50kmph are likely across the state,” he said. Tomar added that weather activity is expected to intensify on May 28, while areas above 4,000m are likely to receive light snowfall.
The forecast comes after a week of unusually hot weather. Dehradun recorded temperatures above 40°C on several days, while Mukteshwar crossed the 30°C mark. Several hill districts also recorded higher-than-normal maximum temperatures. Temperatures in the hills remained around 4°C above normal till Saturday, while the plains were about 3°C above normal.
