DEHRADUN: Police in Dehradun's Dalanwala area arrested four men on Sunday after their speeding motorcycles hit two bike-borne men on the city's busy Rajpur Road on Friday night.
Dehradun SSP Pramendra Dobal said that during investigation, it was found that the accused on two motorcycles raced against each other on the road when the incident happened.
Dobal added: "It was also found that the deceased, Ankit Pal, a resident of Dehradun, was going home on a motorbike taxi. On the way, the driver slowed down at an intersection to move towards a hotel when the two speeding bikes hit them from the side."
Both Pal and the motorbike driver sustained serious injuries and collapsed on the road before the accused fled the scene. Pal was declared "dead on arrival" by hospital authorities, police said.
A case was subsequently registered. All four accused -- Pranjal Ramola, 22; Abhishek Badoni, 21; Lokendra Prasad, 22 (from Uttarkashi); and Sumit Rathori, 22, (Dehradun); were nabbed. Their motorbikes were also seized. "The four were produced before a local court which sent them to jail," said Dobal.
