Dehradun: A two-week Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) sponsored ‘Professional Development Programme (PDP) for Enhancing EIA effectiveness’ started at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) on Monday. Around 30 officials from MoEFCC, state forest departments and Pollution Control Boards from across India are participating in the event, that aims to build capacity for effective environment impact assessment (EIA) appraisal of the participants.
The event which kick-started on Monday, was inaugurated by N Ravi Shankar, former chief secretary, government of Uttarakhand. He highlighted on the need to harmonize conservation concerns with developmental imperatives.
Talking to TOI, director WII, Vinod Mathur said that EIA is a management tool used by decision-makers, regulators and stakeholders to understand the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of proposed development projects.
