RUDRAPUR: A departmental action has been initiated against a Subedar-major (SM) of the 46th Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in
Rudrapur
for alleged misconduct.
Identified as
RS Negi
, the SM had signed an order on behalf of the commandant of PAC on March 13 earlier this year asking the jawans to refrain from keeping
moustache
resembling wing commander
Abhinandan Varthaman of the Indian Air Force.
The order further stated that employees posted in the different branches of the PAC must keep moustache as per the prescribed standard.
An inquiry was later set up to probe the matter. After a month-long investigation, it was found that commandant Sukhvir Singh had asked RS Negi to verbally order the jawans not to sport a beard. But Negi instead issued a written order. Hence, the inquiry team found Negi guilty of misconduct.
Reacting to the incident, commandant Sukhvir Singh told TOI that though there is no provision to take permission for keeping moustache and neither is there any restriction, a standard norm for growing beard must be put in place.
