Rudrapur: At least one person died and three others sustained critical injuries after two rival groups indulged in cross-firing over a land dispute in Pipaliya village of Udham Singh Nagar's Sultanpur Patti town late on Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Kulwant Singh, a resident of Bazpur. Among the injured was Tajinder Singh, the junior block president of Bazpur.
Soon after the clash, a heavy police force was deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incidents further.
Meanwhile, police booked five people involved in the cross-firing after both sides got a police complaint lodged.
According to the circle officer (CO) Vandana Verma, "Netrapal Sharma of Pipaliya village has submitted a complaint alleging that former state general secretary of Congress party, Avinash Sharma, along with over a dozen henchmen, barged into his house and opened fire. As per the complaint, Sharma killed his own aide and accused them of shooting him."
The counter-complaint filed by Tajinder Singh states that Netrapal Sharma had an outstanding debt of Rs 1.5 crore, an amount he took to run a stone crusher. On Tuesday, Netrapal called the other group to his home but when they reached, his men opened fire. During this, Kulwant Singh sustained a fatal bullet wound.
CO Verma added, "We have registered cases based on complaints made by both parties. No arrest has been made so far but the investigation has been launched. The accused would be brought to book."
