Sources in Garhwal Rifles said that the Henderson Ground in Lansdowne, named after the first commandant of Garhwal Rifles, TB Henderson Brooks, will now be named as Shaheed Ajay Ground after a war hero. Similarly, Evat lines would be named after Lance Naik Jaman Singh, and Chetwode lines after Lt Col Kaman Singh, both of whom displayed gallantry in the 1948 India-Pakistan war. Similarly, Manwaring Garden, named after Lt Col EP Manwaring, who led the 1st Garhwal Battalion to Lansdowne on November 4, 1887, will be named Sanjay Sahi Garden after a Kirti Chakra awardee.

The Kitichenere Line would be renamed as Beer Singh line after subedar Beer Singh, who lost his life in 1993 in the line of duty in J&K. Keny Hall, named after British army officer WD Kany, who died in the Afghan war of 1920-21, would be renamed as Gopendra hall, after another war hero.

"We have identified around eight areas, including gardens and other rank lines, whose names would be changed," a serving senior officer of Garhwal Rifles told TOI. The officer, who requested anonymity, added, "This process has been happening since March. A board of officers was formed and names were suggested and discussed at length before a go-ahead was given. Before proceeding in each step, we have kept veterans and everyone else involved, in the loop."
