Civil lines Roorkee police station has registered a complaint on Thursday against the controversial expelled MLA from BJP under sections 153-A (promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race and place), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST Act.

In his complaint, Karnwal alleged that Champion and his supporters had used derogatory words during two press conferences in April. “Though, I had ignored all his abuses against my wife and my community initially, his behaviour pushed my wife into deep depression lately. She is still receiving treatment from AIIMS, Rishikesh. This is why I approached the police now so that such types of people are put behind the bars,” said Karnwal.

However, there is another version to the case. It is believed that Karnwal was reportedly upset after Champion had challenged Karnwal’s domicile certificate used in the nomination form of assembly election in the court. “He is a resident of

Saharanpur district

in Uttar Pradesh and contested the assembly polls after arranging a fake certificate from

Uttarakhand

. Now, the high court has started hearing the case of fake certificate. So, to divert public’s attention from his wrongdoing he has registered a fake case against me,” Champion told TOI on Thursday.

SSP (Haridwar) Senthil Avoodai K Raj said, “We have started investigation in the matter and further action will be taken in accordance with conclusion of our findings.”
