: Chief minister Harish Rawat laid the foundation stone of an National Cadet Corps (NCC) academy at
Srikot Malda township
near Hindolakhal tehsil in Tehri district on Monday. The academy will come up at the cost of Rs 30 crore. The campus will include administrative block, training centre and a hostel for 600 NCC cadets.
On the occasion, he also announced to rename Hindolakhal Government Intermediate College (GIC) after freedom fighter
Bachchan Singh Chauhan
and open a girls’ high school at Hindolakhal. He also announced that Junior High Schools at Amri and Chapoli villages will be upgraded as high schools. He said that an institution to promote local dialects like Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari will be set up at Gauchar in Chamoli district and an institute to promote jagar (devotional songs) will come up at Srinagar in Pauri district. Local devotional songs like Jagar are sung to invoke gods and goddesses.
Addressing a gathering at Devprayag, Rawat said that for religious tourism to become a grand success active participation of local residents is required. Residents have welcomed the idea. “The holy Devprayag is the place where Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet. It has tremendous potential to be the centre for religious tourism,” said Raghuvir Singh at Devprayag.
Rawat was accompanied by cabinet minister for education and drinking water Mantri Prasad Naithani at Devprayag.
