Mussoorie student raped by teacher about to give birth

who had accused her history teacher of raping her repeatedly in September is expecting to deliver her baby within the next 10 days. TOI had earlier reported the case which came in the open when parents of the girl took her for a check-up after she complained of being unwell and found out that she was seven months pregnant.

, the history teacher in her school had been raping her for several months and had threatened to kill her and her family members if she spoke to anyone. A case was thereafter registered with the

Kempty

police station and the teacher was arrested. He has been in jail since September 27.

Police meanwhile said that a DNA test of the baby will help them come closer to the truth in the case. “Complaints have already been lodged under sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 3/4 of the POCSO Act against the accused. Once the DNA of the infant is checked, it can help us close the case,” said Manoj Negi, SHO, Kempty police station.

Speaking to TOI, the minor’s cousin who works in a shop in Mussoorie said, “My sister is too young to know what is going on with her. We try and keep her happy and healthy. Currently, that is our focus. I hope she is able to go through with this ordeal. The doctor has told us to expect the delivery between November 20 to 25.”

Meanwhile, the teacher community in the school where Kumar had been working for almost 10 years is still shaken.

, a veteran teacher, said, “The news is not just shocking but also very sad. If the crime is indeed proved true, it will be a huge dishonour for the teaching community as the pious relationship of a teacher and student will come under a dark cloud.”
