MMC issued notices to vacate encroached govt land

Mussoorie: The Mussoorie Municipal Council (MMC) issued notices to encroachers to clear govt land at Barah Kainchi and near Municipal Gardens within a month, officials said on Tuesday.
Executive officer of MMC, Rajesh Naithani, said, "The notices were issued based on the directions of the high court on a public interest litigation (PIL). The administration was directed to remove all encroachments that were more than 15 years old.We issued notices to 99 identified encroachers to vacate govt land within a month, failing which MMC would conduct a drive to remove them."
TOI learned that, acting on PIL No 117/2023, a list of all encroachers on govt land was provided to the state.
Meanwhile, the people who received the notices voiced their concerns against the eviction. "I am a poor man, and with much difficulty, I managed to build a small dwelling to provide shelter to my family. If I am asked to vacate, then where will my family go?" questioned one of the encroachers
