RUDRAPUR: After days of soaring heat, plains of Terai witnessed
pre-monsoon showers
on Friday. The brief spell of rain, however, failed to lower the temperatures as the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 39
degrees Celsius
on Friday.
Meteorologist at G B Pant university, Pantnagar,
R K Singh, said, “We had issued a pre-monsoon rainfall and thunderstorm warning for Terai from June 16 to June 18.”
Singh added, “The maximum temperature recorded on Thursday was 41.6 degrees Celsius. There were reports of mild precipitation and showers in Rudrapur and surrounding areas but heat conditions remained unaffected.”
“There were mild showers but it was hot and sticky throughout the day,” said
Sonia Singh
, a bank executive. The minimum temperature on Friday morning was 27 degrees Celsius, two degrees above average.
Monsoon is predicted to hit the state by June 21.
