Men’s 20km racewalk national record shattered after 14 years

Dehradun: The men's 20km racewalk national record was shattered after 14 years in the ongoing 38th National Games at the Maharana Pratap Sports Complex in Dehradun on Tuesday.Servin Sebastian, of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), won gold after clocking a timing of 1 hour 21 minutes and 23 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 1:23:26 set by Jharkhand's Gurmeet Singh in 2011. Five other athletes in the same event surpassed the previous record. Uttarakhand's Suraj Panwar took home the silver medal with 1:21:34, while Punjab's Amanjot Singh secured bronze at 1:21:42.Similarly, in the women's 10km racewalk, Haryana's Ravina set a new national record with a gold-winning time of 45:52, surpassing Manipur's Y Bala Devi's 51:56 from 2023.In other events during the day, Narender Aman won gold in the men's 400m hurdles race. Taranveer Singh Bains finished first place in men's hammer throw. Jyothi Yarraji of Andhra Pradesh secured gold in the women's 200m race, and Animesh Kujur of Odisha won the gold in the men's category of the same event. In the 800m men's race, SSCB's Mohammed Afsal P bagged the gold medal, and Chanda KM of Delhi won gold in the women's category.
