DEHRADUN: A 20-year-old MBBS student from Moradabad, UP, allegedly drowned while taking a selfie in a swollen river at Sahastradhara, a popular picnic spot in Dehradun on Sunday evening.
According to police, the girl was identified as Swati Jain (20), a first-year MBBS student at Teerthanker Mahaveer University in Moradabad. SHO Rajpur, Jitendra Chauhan said that during the preliminary probe, it was found that she had come to visit Dehradun with a friend on Saturday.
"The two went to the picnic spot on a rented two-wheeler. According to eyewitnesses, Swati allegedly ventured into deep waters in the swollen river to take a selfie and was swept away in the strong currents. Rescue teams managed to pull her out about one km downstream. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Her parents were informed and they reached Dehradun late on Sunday night," said Chauhan. tnn
