Identified as Irfan Ahmed, the accused and his wife have been undergoing marital discord for the past one year.
According to the police,

and his wife argued on the phone on Saturday night. Following this, Irfan left the house with a bag after midnight.
"After leaving home, he set a tyre shop on fire at

Muskan Chowk

near ISBT. Subsequently, he burnt nearly a dozen motorbikes in Clement Town and Brahamalwala areas and near the railway station. He also set a sofa shop on fire," said a police officer.
During questioning, Irfan told police that he was angry over his wife's refusal to come back home.
He has been booked under section 436 of the Indian Penal Code.
