Uttarakhand: Man booked for posting fake rumour on Facebook

ALMORA: A resident of the town was booked for spreading fake news on coronavirus on social media on Sunday.
According to police, the man, a Gopaldhara resident, posted false information on his Facebook timeline saying that a Covid-19 positive patient has been found in Almora. "A case under Section 505 (1) B and 188 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against the accused for violating the instructions given in connection with coronavirus pandemic.

Necessary action is being taken,” Arun Kumar Verma, inspector-in-charge, Kotwali Almora, told TOI.
SSP Prahlad Kumar Meena said that he has appealed to the people of Almora to not spread panic. "Do not share any false information on social media platforms. Strict action will be taken against those who do so,” added Meena.
The official added that district administration has made adequate arrangements for screening of commuters.
