DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has nabbed a wanted criminal and the main accused and conspirator in the 2014 Roorkee gang war outside jail premises in which three people of rival gang were killed.
Accused Devpal Rana, who is a member of notorious Sunil Rathi gang and carrying a price of Rs 20000 on his head, was arrested from Kurukshetra in Haryana on Tuesday late night.
Reportedly, Rana, on the directions of Sunil Rathi, along with four other accomplices—Amit Bhura, Sushil Choudhary, Ajit Makhilya and Vishwas—attempted to kill rival gangster Chinu Pandit, who was serving his term in jail for an ‘attempt to murder’, while left the jail premises after being released on August 5, 2014.
While Chinu escaped with no injures, who was the main target, his three supporters were killed in the firing. Later, it was revealed that members of Sunil Rathi gang were behind the attack.
“Devpal Rana was absconding since 2014. He was one of the main conspirator and accused involved in the attack on Chinu Pandit outside Roorkee jail. All other accused have already been arrested by STF and police,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) STF Renuka Devi.
Meanwhile, the additional director general of police (ADG) Law and Order has announced a cash reward of Rs 20000 for the STF team which arrested the gangster. There are over 15 criminal cases registered against Devpal in different police stations of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
