Light showers in Doon, hills to get snow tonight

Dehradun: Following a week-long dry period in Uttarakhand, light showers along with intermittent thunderstorm activity were observed in Dehradun on Monday.
Issuing an orange alert for Feb 20, the regional meteorological centre in its forecast stated on Monday that, “Heavy to very heavy snowfall is likely to occur in the higher elevations of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Chamoli district.”
Besides, thunderstorm activity accompanied with lightning, hail and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) is expected at isolated places in the state, as per the forecast.
Bikram Singh, director of the regional meteorological centre, said, “The wet weather will continue across the state till Tuesday night.”
As a result, various roads at places with height around 2,500 metre and above are likely to be closed due to moderate to heavy snowfall, the met centre has predicted, advising the state government to take timely action for the deployment of snow clearance machinery at the vulnerable places.
