Dehradun: A lower court has sentenced a woman, identified as Renu Singh, to life imprisonment for killing her husband. The incident occurred in 2017. The court, however, acquitted Renu’s daughter and her boyfriend for lack of evidence.
On April 26, 2017, one Santram Singh had filed a police complaint alleging that his sister-in-law Renu had been harassing his brother Prithvi for a long time. “My brother was against his daughter’s relationship with one Harpreet Singh. However, my sister-in-law was in support of the relationship. Two days before his murder on April 24, 2017, Prithvi had sold his land for Rs 14.45 lakh,” the FIR read.
Renu and her daughter had escaped the scene before police reached the spot. Following Santram’s complaint, police arrested Renu and filed a chargesheet against her.
On Friday, the court of additional district judge in Kashipur town of Udham Singh Nagar district awarded life imprisonment to Renu holding her guilty of husband’s murder and also slapped her with a fine tune to Rs 20,000.
