Leopard skin seized, 1 arrested

Dehradun: A joint team of the

Champawat

police and the special operations group (SOG) has seized a leopard skin and arrested a person near Devidhura under the limits of

Pati

police station in Champawat district.

The accused,

Manoj Singh Bisht

, a native of

Mukteshwar

in Nainital district, was on his way to Nepal with the 8-feet-long leopard skin when he was arrested.

Superintendent of police, Champawat, Dhirendra Gunjyal, told TOI, “Acting on a tip-off, we raided a place near Devidhura and recovered the leopard skin from a

wildlife

smuggler.”

After examining the skin, a team of the forest department said that it belonged to an adult leopard killed recently.

“During questioning we found that the accused buys animal skins from poachers and sells it to customers,” said the SP Champawat.

The accused has been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act.
