Leopard rescued in Ramgarh

NAINITAL: A suspected maneater

leopard

was trapped and sent to Ranibagh rescue centre by the state forest department in Ramgarh in

Nainital district

on Thursday. The leopard had attacked an 11-year-old girl on Tuesday evening after which the department took measures to rescue the animal to prevent it from becoming a maneater.

T R Bijulal, divisional forest officer, Nainital, said that the vets at Ranibagh rescue centre would determine whether the animal has turned into a maneater.

After the attack on the child, residents of the area had demanded that the leopard be declared a maneater citing other attacks by the big cat on children.

A cage was installed and the leopard was trapped.

Last month, a five-year-old boy in Pokhri village in

Pithoragarh district

was dragged away by a leopard which ambushed the family members when they got down from a taxi outside their house.
