PITHORAGARH: National Highway-9, part of the
Char Dham
all-weather road which was constructed recently, has been blocked for several hours now after landslides brought down heavy debris on the road at Chupakot near
Ghat
, 20
kilometres
away from
Pithoragarh
town.
This incident has affected the connectivity between
Tanakpur
and
Nainital
(a distance of 150 kilometres), making it difficult for vehicles, especially utility vans like milk and vegetable supplies, to reach Pithoragarh.
“Heavy boulders blocked Pithoragarh-Ghat road on Tuesday. The debris removal work is underway but the tough terrain is slowing down the pace of work,” said PL Chaudhari, assistant engineer,
National Highways Authority of India
.
Earlier on March 2, the commuters had to face a similar ordeal when the stretch remained blocked for nearly 48 hours after a landslide.
