JVNL engineer held accepting Rs 50,000 bribe in US Nagar
Dehradun: Uttarakhand vigilance department on Thursday arrested a junior engineer of Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (JVNL) for allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from a contractor. The action followed a complaint received through the department’s toll-free helpline, 1064.
V Murugesan, director of the vigilance department, said, “The complainant had secured a tender for a project at the Pahuslok barrage and had completed the work.” However, junior engineer Faisal Khan was allegedly demanding a bribe to clear payment for the project, he added.
Murugesan said preliminary verification of the complaint found the allegations to be true, following which the vigilance department laid a trap.
“Under the trap, the complainant met Khan and handed over Rs 50,000. As soon as Khan accepted the money, vigilance sleuths caught him red-handed in Kashipur of Udham Singh Nagar district. He was arrested under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the BNS,” he said.
The vigilance director appealed to the public to report corruption involving govt employees through helpline 1064 or via WhatsApp on 9456592300.
