ITBP, U’khand govt sign pact to provide meat, fish to paramilitary force in state

Dehradun: In an ambitious project under the Vibrant Village Scheme, aimed to draw revenue worth Rs 200 crore into the state in five years by supplying local products like meat and fish to the ITBP battalion deployed in Uttarakhand, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Uttarakhand govt on Wednesday. The MoU was signed by secretary of animal husbandry BVRC Purushottam and IG Sanjay Gunjyal of ITBP.
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "This agreement would improve the livelihood of the locals and make them feel connected with the security of the country, while increasing their contact with the ITBP." CM Dhami directed officials to ensure adequate availability of local products in the state. He said, "A plan should be made to arrange for the supply of vegetables, milk, cheese, and eggs to ITBP from the state."
Animal husbandry minister, Saurabh Bahuguna, said, "This decision was taken to boost the livelihood of animal breeders and fish farmers. This will also help in curbing migration from the hills of the state."
The agreement will directly benefit more than 11,000 animal breeders, including 7,000 women, through more than 80 cooperative societies of the state. About 10,000 animal breeders would provide sheep and goat, more than 800 poultry owners would provide chicken, and 500 fish farmers would provide trout fish to ITBP.
