DEHRADUN: Amid the ongoing probe into the attempt-to-murder case in which illegal miners allegedly ran their tractor over a police constable in Dehradun's cantonment area on Sunday morning, the three absconding accused on Tuesday managed to get interim bail against their arrest from the local district and sessions court.
According to police, the three accused -- identified as Wasim, Arselan and Sohail, all brothers -- in their interim bail application before the court, had argued that they were wrongly framed in the case of an attempt to murder against the police constable Manoj Kumar Rana as it is "not possible for four persons to drive a single tractor." One of the police officers privy to the case said that the development came a day after the arrest of one of the four accused, Shamim, who was allegedly driving the tractor when it ran over Rana.

"The three argued that a case of attempt-to-murder against them was falsely registered as the tractor was being driven by Shamim. Given the circumstantial evidence, they could be booked only for rash driving under section 279 of IPC which is a bailable offence. The court then granted them interim bail based on the arguments," said the officer.
Sarvesh Panwar, superintendent of police, Dehradun (crime) who is probing the case, confirmed the development and said, "We have already arrested the accused who was driving the tractor. The probe will continue as per the legal grounds."
Constable Rana was allegedly run over by the tractor of illegal miners after he tried to stop them on Sunday morning when he was out for a morning walk. Following the incident, a case was registered against the four accused, all brothers and residents of the city's Premnagar area.
