Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ took the internet by storm, a call with the same name duped a Haldwani man of Rs 8 lakh.

, who was duped of Rs 8 lakh in a duration of 10 years since year 2007, told TOI that a couple of people frequently called him and convinced him to invest his money in an insurance policy, which will triple his revenue. Among the callers was a girl, who identified herself as Sonam Gupta.
“After depositing Rs 8 lakh recently, I waited for a considerable time for the insurance papers. I called the numbers several times but no one took the calls. It was then that I realized that the callers had duped me,” Bhatt said, adding that a person named R K Mittal also called him and said that he was an income tax officer.
Nainital district senior superintendent of police Janmejay Khanduri said, “A case has been registered against 12 unknown people under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is underway. I appeal to people to verify such calls and requests before investing money.”
