Dehradun: Weeks after the Congress-led state government introduced a monthly scheme pension that would see those above 60 years receive Rs 800, chief minister Harish Rawat on Monday that aged construction workers will also be included in the purview of the scheme from the coming year. A detailed survey will be conducted to ascertain the numbers of such labourers in the state.
Addressing a gathering of laborers at Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), Rawat clarified that the survey will begin from the first week of January 2015 in all 13 districts. “The survey will take at least six months to complete. The scheme will be operational after that,” the CM said.
He also announced the launch of a detailed action plan to impart professional training to construction workers to make them skilled labourers. “Once they are imparted such ITI-like professional training, they will be able to get jobs in private factories as well,” said state chief secretary N Ravishankar.
