Govt teacher held for raping 15yo student

Pithoragarh: A 37-year-old govt school teacher was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old student and forcing her to undergo an abortion after she became pregnant, police said on Tuesday.

The survivor visited a primary health centre on June 5, complaining of stomach pain. During the examination, doctors found that she was pregnant. Her condition later deteriorated due to excessive bleeding. “The girl revealed that she had been sexually exploited by the teacher, who gave her abortion pills after she informed him about the pregnancy,” a doctor said.

Pithoragarh SP Akshay Prahlad Konde said, “We have registered a case against the teacher under BNS Section 65(1) (punishment for the rape of a female minor under 16 years of age) and relevant sections of the Pocso Act. The accused was produced before a district sessions court and sent to judicial custody.”
