Chief medical officers of all 13 districts have been asked to conduct intense monitoring and run awareness campaigns to check the contagious viral infection common among children below the age of 10 years. It is caused due to the Coxsackie virus.

In his four-point directive, Dr R Rajesh Kumar, the secretary of the health department, has told the CMOs that the infection spreads just like other viral infections i.e. through coughing, sneezing, and human secretion (especially nose and throat) of an infected person.

The basic symptoms are high-grade fever, fatigue, body ache, joint pains anxiety, satiety, pain in the throat, loose stools, swelling of gums, face, tongue and hand along with blisters. The only way to stop its spread is to follow “supportive treatment”.
