Girl dies after being hit by dumper

Dehradun: A 15-year-old girl, who was on her way to school, died after she was hit by a dumper while she was crossing a road in Badowala area on Thursday morning. The family members and locals held a protest and blocked the traffic movement on the Shimla by-pass route.

The girl was identified as Mansi Bisht, resident of Ganeshpur area of Patel Nagar. She was a Class XI student and was on her way to school at the time of the incident. After hitting the girl, the driver of the dumper, identified as Zeeshan Ahmed, 24, drove towards Dehradun city. The locals followed the vehicle and with the help of police, it was stopped near the Gorakhpur Chowk. When the locals started thrashing Ahmed, the cops locked the driver inside a shop for protection. Later, in the presence of police force, the driver was taken to Patel Nagar police station.

DM Dehradun C Ravishankar and SSP Nivedita Kukreti went to the spot and spoke to the protesters. After assurance of strict action, the protest was called off and traffic resumed on Shimla by-pass route after five hours.
