First triple talaq case registered in Kumaon

Rudrapur: A man has been booked by Kichha police in district Udham Singh Nagar for giving triple talaq to his wife. The accused is on the run and police said that they would nab him soon.
This is second such case in the state since the enactment of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) law, which prescribes up to three years of imprisonment.
In her complaint, Shabana, a resident of Baghauri village in Sitarganj area of the district, stated that her husband Mohammad Rashid and in-laws harassed her for giving birth to a girl. They also thrashed her many a times. An FIR was filed against Rashid at Kichha police station on Sunday. Senior sub-inspector DS Pangti, said that this is first such case in the district.
