NAINITAL: Fire broke out in Kaladhungi road branch of Bank of India on Friday morning, engulfing valuables worth crores.
Primary investigations revealed that short circuit was the cause of the accident. “The incident was unfortunate and it was reported by some locals. Apart from strong room everything else has been damaged. No casualties have been reported,” said Santhil Abudai, senior superintendent of police, Nainital.
The locals who spotted the fire immediately alerted police and the fire department. “It was around 5.30am when I was taking a walk and saw smoke coming out of the building. Initially, I thought that it was fog but realized later that it was fire and called police,” said Ramesh Pant (48), a local resident.
The fire tenders reached the spot within 20 minutes and took more than two hours to douse the fire.
Furniture, computers, air conditioners, server and other electronic equipments were destroyed in the fire. The officials from the bank could not tell the estimate but mentioned that the loss could exceed Rs 1 crore.
