Fearing parents, couple commits suicide

RUDRAPUR: A couple committed suicide by consuming poison in Nandpur village of Gadarpur in US Nagar district on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Preeti, 18, and Vijay Maurya, 19, both from Nandpur village. Sources said that the couple entered into a suicide pact as they feared that their parents won’t consent to their marriage.
The couple went to the field on Monday night and consumed poison.Vijay called his parents and told them that they have taken the extreme step. His mother reached the spot with the girl’s family and took them to the district hospital where the boy was declared brought dead. Preeti died in a Haldwani hospital.
The parents told the police that they didn’t know about their relationship and would have agreed to their match had they approached them.
