Dehradun: A case was registered at Premnagar police station against the director of a prominent private engineering institute in Dehradun in connection with alleged irregularities in the Centre’s minority scholarship scheme.
The action follows a complaint filed by Dehradun district minorities welfare officer JS Rawat after a central probe found discrepancies in 95 institutes across the country, including five in Uttarakhand, during 2021-23. Investigating officer SI Vijay Pratap Rahi said the complaint was lodged on the directions of the central authorities.
“The Centre directed state minorities welfare departments to file complaints against institutes where discrepancies were found in the scholarship programme between 2021 and 2023,” Rahi said. Police said the institute’s management has been accused of cheating, forgery, and other offences linked to the alleged irregularities.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the institute’s director under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust), and 467 (forgery of valuable securities), among others.
