Election staff reach out to elderly voters in Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: Despite tough weather conditions and a thick layer of snow in the higher reaches, election officials trekked long distances to reach the homes of those who are differently-abled and senior citizens above the age of 80 to ensure all could exercise their franchise.

. Even in adverse conditions such as heavy snowfall, the process was completed by 2,241

polling

officials under a transparent system. In many instances, polling teams trekked a distance of about 10 to 15 kilometres. Postal

ballots

were issued to a total of 17,068 differently-abled and over 80 voters.
