. Earlier this week, senior party leader and former CM Harish

Rawat

stirred up things by saying, “Either I will be the CM or sit at home. ” He made the statement on being asked about the possibilities of his becoming the CM if Congress wins the polls. Previously, in 2002 and 2012, too, Rawat was the frontrunner for the post but lost out to ND Tiwari and Vijay Bahuguna respectively.


Meanwhile, responding to Rawat’s comments, leader of opposition, Pritam Singh, regarded as Rawat’s bete noire within the party, said that “the party high command, as per tradition, would announce the name of CM after Congress wins the polls. ” “We need to wait and watch. If results are in our favour, our national leadership will take a call. We will follow their direction,” Singh said. The reports of a tussle between the two senior party leaders had surfaced in the run-up to the polls as well.
