DEHRADUN: Two members of a gang inspired by Bollywood movie ‘Special 26’, which posed as fake Income Tax officers to dupe people, has been sent to five-days police remand by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Tuesday.
Both Awadesh Kumar and Varun Thakur, identified as Delhi residents, were arrested on August 26 by Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) after two residents of Dalanwala area informed the police about the operation of such gang.
Significantly, police demanded 15-days police custody of both accused but the court only gave five-day remand to the police. The police filed an application in the court claiming that they need to nab other members of the gang and recover the money duped from their targets with the help of Awadesh and Varun.
Speaking to TOI, Syus Kukreti, advocate of accused, told, “The court has given five day remand and I have been permitted to accompany my clients in case police takes them to other locations for gathering information.”
On the basis of primary information gathered from the initial interrogation of Awadesh and Varudn, police are likely to take both of them to Delhi, Kanpur, Bulandshahr and Noida in search of other members of the gang.
Notably, inspired by Bollywood flick ‘Special-26’, the gang used to introduce themselves as Income Tax officers and raided the locations of people from financially sound background.
