Dhami seeks Rs 408 crore from Centre for Kumbh works

Dehradun: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Jal Shakti minister C R Patil in Delhi on Monday and sought expeditious approval of projects worth Rs 408.82 crore under National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) for preparations related to Haridwar Kumbh 2027. Dhami discussed arrangements for the Kumbh scheduled from Jan to April 2027 and reviewed projects linked to Namami Gange. He said, "Crores of devotees from India and abroad are expected to arrive for the Kumbh. Ensuring the purity, cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga is our top priority."Dhami also requested approval of proposals worth Rs 253 crore for flood protection works and sought release of additional funds under Jal Jeevan Mission. Raising the issue of canal expansion, he said, "Capacity enhancement of the Ikbalpur canal system and the Kankhal and Jagjeetpur canals is essential to strengthen irrigation and drinking water supply in the region."
He added, "The proposed expansion will make 665 cusecs of water available for irrigation of unirrigated land and benefit Bhagwanpur and Laksar areas of Haridwar district. The project would provide irrigation facilities to nearly 13,000 hectares and help address drinking water shortages".
